Well I am not forced to watch TV. I can turn mine off ! There  is PBS and with cable you can find almost anything!

I limit my TV ..........I'd rather type here than watch most of the crap on TV !!!

Sorry daren but I don't feel "forced" to watch any of it.....I have a remote control and I just press that button that says "POWER OFF".  Poof...like magic...no more trash TV.       :)

I know what you're saying, there's a lot of stuff out there that really makes me wonder how it stays on the air. Matter of fact, some of them make me wonder how they ever got on the air!

I can totally agree with you this TV. crap 1/2 of it is commercial after commercials, sick of it all. now I try to stay away as much as possible. Answer on akaQA  but get tire easily when I read a lot of question that I can't answer. Anyhow try my best to help out if I can! My eye sight is not the best.

I gave up on American TV years ago. I watch a few show from Europe and search the INTERNET for good movies. I don't waste my time on Hollywood crap. I don't want it to pollute my mind with garbage. I spend a lot of time in book store and libraries selecting a good book. I spend an equal amount of time selecting a good film to watch. It should be a crime to damage a brain with garbage!

Nobody forces anybody to watch the trash TV - 90% of what's available. There is another 10% that you can watch and enjoy: Discovery, Planet Earth, National Geographic, PBS, Charlie Rose interviews, etc.

I watch the local news, Discovery and National Geographic Channels. I also like PBS. II cant stand sthe other garbage. It pollutes my mind.

Don't watch any of that garbage, can't relate. Watching the news this morning, they announced that "Snooky" was pregnant. I've seen the advertisement for the program. Jersey shore or something. The world is at the doorstep of a nuclear holocaust, and a pregnant whore gets more airtime than soldiers dyeing. Disgusting.

I suppose there is trash and trash - depends on the observer their needs, and expectations at the time - must say though some programmes I would not consider watching but again we are all different but really need to discriminate.

I enjoy some shows on TV but your right alot of it is trash.  No one has mentioned Animal Planet- I enjoy that.

After a long shift at work, often not getting home before midnight, I enjoy trashy shows that are not thought provoking, or controversial, repeats of MASH or the like are fine by me to get me off to sleep, they are better, more effective than the sleeping meds I have

The quality of television programs has deteriorated over the course of years.  The level of violence, graphic EVERYTHING, and subject matter is atrocious.   
I have the TV on alot, but it's just for the noise. My radio doesn't work well in the living room.  

Change the channel. Or open a book and read.

I was paying $130 AUD a month for Foxtel, i just got fed up with commercials, which originally i got foxtel because there were no adverts like free to air, i rang them up and told them to stuff it where the sun does not shine,  i went back to free to air, still have adverts but it is free. i loath all the reality shows, luckily being digital there are plenty of channels with decent programmes to watch which are not an insult to intelligence.

daren i love this question.  About 20 years ago Time Magazine had an article about TV talk show host, David Letterman, of the David Letterman.  What the article said was that David was an instrument of the 'dumming down' of America.  Since then value on TV have died and gone to heaven, to be polite.  The garbage we are feeding the younger generation make me want to cry & sometime I do.  But the good thing is young people are smart.  And they need to be to keep this crazy world flowing in the right direction.  It's kind of hard because so many crooked people and politicians have made a mess.  Look at Greece, not paying taxes.  Look at corporations and wallstreet in America.   We have a show in America called, American Greed, which talks about all the greed and deceit put upon the American tax payers.  Anyway.

Everyone has a different sense of humor and I expect that the article must have been written by someone who does not like "Letterman humor". (How about the Three Stooges? Could there have been anything dumber?) We are a long, long, long way DOWN from either of those shows now. Watch Jersey Shore just once, or the Housewives shows, or the Kardashians. Yuk!

Bulletman...Cher also handled him very well...he likes that! He was very funny (to me) when he started out as a stand up comedian.
