Driving is probably the most impressive. Bring much $$$$ for gas, it's a very big country.

Google Earth would be the least expensive way..  I've traveled the world with Google Earth!  Much better than faxing yourself to other countries, Many times they won't fax you back home.. I quit doing that.

With an open mind, large eyes and strong legs.

I've driven across the U.S. a several times, North and South a few and I'd say the best way to see it is like Ed said driving. It would be best to buy or rent an R.V. or recreational vehicle. The parks are awesome and the most scenic areas to visit. The cities aren't all that impressive to me anyhow.

I was just thinking about what Benthere said above.  I remember the commercial well. It was "Chevrolet, building a better way to see the USA." Then after the 1973 oil embargo during the Nixon administration, the slogan was changed to "Chevrolet, building a better way to serve the USA."

Any way, welcome to the USA.  Hope you have a great time here.  Please don't remember the most important state to visit:  Hawaii.
