Marshall or Sheriff what is the difference between the two

US Marshal has three primary responsibilities:
    -Transportation of federal prisoners
    -Security at federal court houses
    -Serving federal warrants.

The Sheriff is the primary law enforcement officer for the county. He enforces state and local laws and runs the county jail.

Neither the US Marshal nor the Sheriff have any authority to collect a small claims action. The correct remedy is to take him back to court and have him found in contempt. The court may then authorize a garnishment, but there is no guarantee.
