Today is Papa's birthday. My gift to celebrate his life was to call my mom and tell her i have not had a cigarette in a a week. Hubby quit too.
But I really want to go get a pack...

Good for you! Keep resisting the urge...you are just about over the hump. Before long, when you stand next to a smoker, and notice the smell, that will encourage you to stay off of them, even more. Keep thinking (or post a list) of the health risks associated with smoking, not to mention being an example to the children who are watching you. Millions have quit...so can you!

Good on ya, i'm a smoker i have tried several times, it is hard, keep it up for another week and you are over the first hurdle, i been told i'ts will power that will do it, which will test you , unfortunately the urge to have a cig. is there for years. The most addicted drug of them all. It's good your husband is trying as well , you can supportb each other, you will need also the support of all the family and friends too this will help tremendously -- good luck, Jenn.

That's great. I started to develope severe headaches at day 19. I didn't know what was wrong. I couldn't take any more aspirin as I developed a stomach bleed. I gave in and took several hits and my headache was gone. Hopefully this doesn't happen to either of you. Have some Nicorette on hand just in case. I can't take any of the stop smoking products as I have atrial fib and they have the side effect of possibly causing atrial fib. I do wish you both success in your effort.

I quit in 1990. Really difficult. Coughed up phlem for a couple months that cleaned out the longtime congestion. If I would have had any smokes within walking distance I wouldn't have made it.
My thought was 'I did this yesterday I'll do it again today' . I sort of made it a contest between me and the creature inside me that demanded a smoke and tried to make me miserable enough to give in. Kicked his ass every day!
You and yours are my hero

That urge will lessen more and more over the next few years. But, during that time, it will occasionally arise. Many of the states reached a settlement with the tobacco companies, and have funds set aside for aids to quit smoking. While nicotene patches are not the perfect solution, I have found them to be of help.
I quit several times before, and you will be surprised at how much money you will save also. One time that I had quit, I took the money that I'd otherwise spend on cigarettes, and bought a used 4 wheel drive truck with it. I got a lot more use and satisfaction out of the truck than the cigarettes. It was also a way to psychologically reinforce the benefits of quiting smoking. Well, it's something to think about!

Some experts say that people addicted to nicotiene and other chems. in cigs. have a worse time quitting then cocaine addicts. It is a tough road. Go easy on yourself and hubby. gaining weight, getting stressed out, angry, etc. are pretty normal but will ease in time. one moment at a time, one day at a time, "i can smoke tomorrow" (say that one everyday) are good thinking strategies. And if you do start up again- throw them out the next day and start over.
