Just like gold, people have been collecting and using silver for thousands and thousands of years because of the many helpful things it does, and because it’s very pretty to look at, too!
Silver is a mineral that comes from within the Earth. It is most commonly found in extractions of other metals like copper, lead, and zinc. When it’s found, it’s usually in the shape of wiry, spindly bundles or thin sheets! Mining for silver is done in over 50 countries!
Silver is useful for a lot of reasons. It’s easy to mold into shapes, such as jewelry, and it is also very good at conducting electricity! (Of all kinds of metals, silver is actually the best at this!) Silver is also useful for things that need to be shiny and reflective, like a mirror. (And mirrors are sometimes made with silver!)
