    Who was Alan Turing?

Founder of computer science, mathematician, philosopher,
codebreaker, strange visionary and a gay man before his time:

Alan Turing ( 1912- 1954 ) was a pioneer computer scientist but did not invent the internet. Very sadly, he committed suicide as he was homosexual and this was illegal in his day. Some things are better today.

I don't think whether or not he was American has anything to do with his recognition. There have been many inventors from around the world, for all kinds of things, who have been duly recognized. Why would it be any different in regards to him? When and where was the idea for the internet first introduced? What was its original intended purpose? Often a recorded patent application is the primary source for identifying an inventor. When and where was a patent applied for in regards to the technology?
