In Australia if you are receiving a dissabillity support pension or any type of pension, you can go to a government funded rehabillitation unit for drug and alcohol issues. You pay the rehab so much from your pension and the government pays the rest, some stays require 3 , 6, or 12 month programs some are up to 2 years. As for detox you can do this free at a public hospital.Private rehab clinics can cost from anything from $500.00 upwards a day.

It costs over $1000 a day at the minimum.

The price tag for drug re-hab treatment  depends on the type of rehab you choose. You need to know what is included, what will be added to your bill as a fee-for-service program, and what services your health insurance will cover. This makes it extremely difficult to compare prices by simply asking the question - "What does rehab cost?" The best way to find out the range of costs for rehab is to talk to an intake advisor. You can discuss your insurance coverage or your financial concerns and they will help you narrow down your choices to what best meets your needs in the most affordable way. If you are seeking the best value for your treatment dollar, remember: Price can be meaningful only in the context of quality and performance.

How much does drug rehab cost

While you obviously can’t put a price on recovery from drug addiction, the fact is that drug rehab costs money. In some cases a LOT of money. And while more and more insurance carriers and employers are covering the cost of treatment, it is still important to know what you’re getting into before you sign up.

The following is by no means the end-all-be-all of drug rehab price guides, but it will provide enough information so that you don’t end up with a massive debt to go along with your new found sobriety.

The Cost of Outpatient Drug Rehab

A month-long outpatient drug rehab program generally costs in the vicinity of $3,000 to $12,000. While that is a fairly large price range, there are several factors which help determine the cost:

in the uk there is help and sometimes this free if you are on income support child support ect .... but you have to prove to them that you are willing and take it serously .................

Most people go through rehab on insurance or the state. If a court mandates treatment and the person cannot pay, the state will pick up the tab through emergency Medicaid.

Over 90% of rehabs in the US are based on the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. The rest are mostly Narconon (Scientology) or heavily religious. The courts for 16 states (so far) have declared AA and 12step treatment to be "religious in nature" and a violation of the Establishment Clause:

The New York Court of Appeals.
The Second Federal District Court. (NY, VT, CT)
The Seventh Federal District Court. (WI, IN, IL)
The Ninth Federal District Court. (MT, ID, WA, OR, NV, CA, AZ, HI, AK)
    The Tennessee Supreme Court.

12step treatment has a low success rate; here is a list alcohol treatment methods rated by effectiveness, 12step treatment barely beat out AA meetings alone, they are rated 37 & 38 out of 48:

The vast majority of people who quit, do so on their own with no treatment or programs:

"There is a high rate of recovery among alcoholics and addicts, treated and untreated. According to one estimate, heroin addicts break the habit in an average of 11 years. Another estimate is that at least 50% of alcoholics eventually free themselves although only 10% are ever treated. One recent study found that 80% of all alcoholics who recover for a year or more do so on their own, some after being unsuccessfully treated. When a group of these self-treated alcoholics was interviewed, 57% said they simply decided that alcohol was bad for them. Twenty-nine percent said health problems, frightening experiences, accidents, or blackouts persuaded them to quit. Others used such phrases as "Things were building up" or "I was sick and tired of it." Support from a husband or wife was important in sustaining the resolution."
