DNA -  is deoxyribonucleic acid. RNA is ribonuclleic acid. Genes (molecules of DNA) are the basic units of hereditary transmission. DNA also provides the genetic code which determines the development and metabolism of cells controlling RNA synthesis. The sequetial order of the components that make up RNA determines the amino acid composition of proteins in turn dtermines the functions of proteins and thereby of cells. DNA has a double helix there is a building on the South Bank with this in neon lights.

The many thousands of genes are carried by chromosomes(rod like structures in the cell nuclei) In man each somatic or non-germ cell normally has 46 chromosomes, arranged in 23 pairs.  Hope this helps you can take it from here.

One of them has an [R] and the other has [D]

DNA and RNA in the most basic way is that DNA is double stranded whereas RNA is single stranded. The next difference is that DNA is made from deoxyribose and RNA is made from ribose, why do you ask?
