I have never ever been able to understand why people say 'how do you do'.
Do WHAT? Or who cares. doing fine, seems to be the standard answer, but why. I DON'T KNOW! The sister to that one is 'how are you'. Compared to WHAT! How I was yesterday? I try to not reply 'fine and how are you' especially to someone who needs a lot of attention.
