    What is the difference between a Birth Certificate and a Certificate of Birth?

    Hawaii has issued our President a C of B, whereas, I have a B.C.

    A birth certificate is issued directly by a hospital with the information provided by the attending physician and/or nurse. The birth certificate is sent to the city/town clerk where the hospital is located. A Certificate of (Live) Birth can be obtained by the parents for use in enrolling the child in school, obtaining a social security number, getting a job etc. The original birth certificate is kept by the city/town clerk and a copy of it will be sent to the Vital Statistics Office of the State in which the city/town is located in.
    A Certificate of Birth is issued by the hospital. A Birth Certificate is issued by the county.
