I don't think that any sized "pen" is suitable for a large dog. Can't you fence off your entire yard?  Dogs need to be able to access you & your family.They are companionable animals & need company otherwise they can go a bit troppo when they are penned up all the time.

Large- the dog should be able to stand on hind legs, walk comfortably around have shade and sun...and have a heated place to stay when it is cold out- a cool place to stay when it is warm out. please remember that dogs are sensitive to both heat and cold...need companionship and love...and need to have water accessible at ALL times.  I am not a fan of keeping a dog outside 24/7...they are 'pack' animals...& PLEASE bring the dog into a suitable environment- your home to become a part of your pack.  It is necessary in weather extremes that your dog be kept safe!!! (water freeses quickly when temps drop below 32 deg. F and eating snow is not an alternative!!!!!

Dont understand why you want to put him in a pen.My GSD has the run of the house.I work on the theory,if he can get everywhere he will protect everywhere.Incidentally i also open the downstairs curtains last thing at night,if theres anyone out there who shouldnt be i know he can see and be seen.Touch wood,so far,weve not had burgulars...

Well let's put it this way build the pen let the dog stay in the house you live in the dog pen for about a month and then you decide.
