Why do you not just give them to someone instead of murdering them??????????  That is just cruel.

Both Ben and Darci have the right ideas. Why do you want to destroy them anyway? My catfish is on tank number 4 now as he just keeps on growing. But believe me,i would NOT have him put down. When i find ive no space for yet a new bigger tank he goes to a fish sanctuary.Hes a long way off that though yet

I do not think you can put a fish to sleep. Flush it or wait for it to just die on it's own.

alcohol replaces oxygen in the bloodstream for humans, so maybe vodka in the aquarium would do the same to the fish? These arent fish I bought yesterday, had them about eight yrs now and I don't think they would fit down the toilet. God do you have ice in your veins?

No, no ice, just don't think there is any way to kill them the way you want to. I find it hard to kill a living creature. I'm surprised that you would want to kill one since you are believing you are so compassionate about them. I personally would take it to a vet and not look for the cheap route out. Now go get your fish drunk and see if it solves your problem of how to kill it by suffocating it to death. Might as well just take it out of the water.

At least take them to a creek/river and set them free if you don't want them,or ask around if someone else is capable of taking care of them.

I have 7 aquariums, this was a fun hobby until husband decided i wasn't soulmate any longer. I live in a cold climate and believe me i am trying to give them away, tanks fish and all. The proper upkeep of this many fish is quite expensive. I am a retired nurse and am just now attempting to get back into the workforce after 15+yrs.

Advertise them on Craigslist, you will find a home for them there. http://hartford.craigslist.org/

This sounds like a job for  F-I-S-H F-R-Y!

So Toddertracker, you are compassionate toward your fish because you're attached to them, after 8 years?  No wait, you are NOT compassionate toward them because you want to kill them.  I'm confused.  I know for sure though, you won't be able to drown them, so maybe you could advertise for a good home?

I have read all the answers and your comments and I am pleased you are willing to find homes for them as you say they are pets I wished  I lived nearer i would have them on a heart beat if yo cant find them a home take them to a aquireiam and they normally take all the fish of your hands I know  in the UK all the fish shops take in every fish that needs a home good luck and if you find a home make sure they are responcable  people

where do you live...I'll take your fish!

There is no way. Just go put in a pond or lake. Some other fish will benefit .

Thanks for the input. Colleen nailed it. I had not thought of craigslist. These fish really are pets, most will take food from your hand. Pretty sure I can find them homes for them now.

    great

Put them in the freezer in a container of water. They will simply go to sleep without suffering.
