I'm surprised that anyone would ask this question in today's techno-world....
A corded phone has the receiver/mouthpiece attached to the base of the phone by a curled cord.  The receiver only functions when the cord is connected to both receiver and base.
A cordless phone has no cord connecting the receiver and base.  You may walk away from the base and still carry on a conversation (providing your phone is plugged in and the receiver amply charged).

Geezzzz really???? Cordless phones go look at them in Wal-Mart.

    The cord

yes you need a cordless extension cord to plug it it..
