Just one if he does it correctly.

While I do believe what others think of me has some relevance (basic common courtesy and cleanliness notwithstanding),  when "they" call him a man is not as important as when he knows he is a man.
(This doesn't mean others will think him a man, of course.  Some males think smacking their spouses is manly......)
