Has anyone worked out a budget and stuck to it?

Next month my oldest son is turning 18 which will cut off a good chunk of family Allowance. On top of that I have doubled my work load and will no longer qualify for the rental assistance program offered by the government for a low income family. I totally agree and understand with the loss of these government help programs I have worked my butt off to get to a higher income bracket. Losing a good chunk of help I have decided to organize a budget as this upcoming New Years theme is a year of saving so I can buy my first home. Have any of you worked out a reasonable budget? How did you do it? Have you stuck to it?

I am going to go through the past three months of spending information, itemize different spending areas, add up all necessities and hopefully see areas where I can cut down.I'm just not sure how much I need to cut down in the fun department. I work hard long hours and do deserve some enjoyment but how much is too much?

Hopefully I will have enough self control to keep on budget....especially once I start to see my savings going up.

You can get help for budgeting by upgrading to micorsoft office.

I've seen that. I bought debt Free Forever by Gail Van Oxlade, she has a really great budget set up. Great book! Thanks for your advice and happy new year to you!

Everyone that is not independently wealthy, cuz when you have more month at the end your check, so to speak, one is forced into budgeting whatever is left.

    Nobody has done this?
