    The English, old English related to LATIN.....angle.

    certainly was not the greeks, although much of our words do come from the ancient greeks..

    Watch yer tongue. We speak better English than the English (not toffy). Most of the English speak in a strange accent. Sometimes they are hard to understand, but not always.

    Yeah, Ed1530, you got it right! - The first to speak English were the English. But English women also, not just the men.  (From about the time of the Norman Conquest in 1066, people living in Britain were called English and were considered to speak English.) 

    If you mean English without a funny accent, that would be Canada. Eh ?
