While expert reviewers such as ConsumerReports.org, and Good Housekeeping and Real Simple magazines favor more expensive steam irons in their latest ratings, user reviews tell a completely different story. In fact, some Reviewers and users agree: The Black & Decker Digital Advantage D2030 (*Est. $50) proves the point that you don't have to spend more than $100 on a steam iron to get great results. Even though it costs a bit more than a very basic steam iron -- and retails for less than many Rowentas -- this 1,500-watt model has plenty of features, including a digital readout, stainless-steel soleplate, soft-grip handle, automatic cleaner, variable steam control, burst-of-steam and vertical steam functions, and a motion-sensitive automatic shutoff with audible alerts. It also has a beeping light indicator that lets you know when your preferred temperature has been reached when you lower the setting.
The Digital Advantage isn't tested by professional publications (except for an older review at Slate), but it gets an enormous number of user ratings -- enough to propel it past more expensive irons in owners' eyes. The largest number of reviews can be found at Amazon.com, but we also found user feedback at Buzzillions.com.
