The Mormon religion is heavily into Television Advertising in Australia at present. Is this a global thing?

The adds are showing people who tell you who they are what they do for a crust etc and finish with' I am Wally Woodduck, and I am a Mormon"

Don`t get me wrong I have no fault with the adds but just curious.

Are they finding people do not see them as just normal people with normal lives and not just "Holy Harries" I see them as people with a certain belief and I applaude them for their belifs and tanacity certainly not like others who belittle those who choose a different path.

PLEASE I am not asking for opinions on any belief I am asking are these adds being used in other places in the world.

Please do not respond with reasons no one should have any faith different from yours.

You got it in one Ed,we also refer to money as dough.

No not in the UK. but there is an interesting programme running on the television at the moment called "Living with the Amish" where teenagers from here go to stay with them to learn their culture. Yes I do know there was a recent scandal in the USA recently concerning the Amish. However, I have always admired them.

What was the scandal? I always thought they were kind of cool.

Tommy - I am not sure - I vaguely saw it on the news the people from US would know -I was on the phone and had TV on pause but they were showing a group of Amish people - some sort of conflict between community regarding cutting of beards attacks. Groups in Jefferson and Holmes counties. Google it under Amish conflict - "Prof. explains impact Oct 11th 2011". Yes they are usually so cool and not sure how serious this was - thanks Tommyx

Not at the moment.  A few years back they began building an enormous church about 30 minutes from my home.  I met quite a few followers then... nice people actually.  No different than me except the non-dancing ... Seriously, the Church is something else.

There were advertisements exactly how you have described but it's pretty quiet now.

Do you live out west ? I don't , and there are Mormon churches here, but not as many as out west---specifically Utah. I went to visit one with a mormon woman I worked with .
    FISH-O

I am in Western Canada. The Utah Mormons are in the news quite a bit... and so are ours at the moment... But not the one's in this specific area.

No -  not in the UK.

and so say all of us

NO.  I have not seen any kinds of ads on the TV for Mormon recently.  I think they have had some in the past, but not in the "spirit" you have described....more about family orientation.

Yes There are ads in the midwest USA I think because 1 of the people running for president is Mormon and they want all to know they are just normal folks!

    mycatsmom

He's running for the nomination....to be put on the ballot---- Mitt Romney . His father was our gov. here in Michigan for 3 terms ! We loved him. People knew he was Morman, but it was never an issue..But, now, thanks to CNN and Time magazine, they're making an issue out of Mitt Romney's religion.

    NO. in the Uk

    Yes

Here as of late, yes, a great deal....I sort of tune them out but they're sweet..............

Their big here in the usa as well,i think their second to the cathloic church in terms  of wealth.

In the  US....YES  in the Eastern part........................

No Peoplelover havnt seen any xxx

Richard Nixson was a Quaker, and the press never mentioned it, like they do with Romney being a Mormon.

They don't seem to be pushing it that much here in the U.S. Don't get sucked into it. It's a cult

    PEOPLELOVER

Thanks mycatsmom but I am a 79 year athiest so not much chance any one would hunt me down for conversion.

P.L. They come to our doors....usually two young men at a time. They're not pushy, but if you invite them in, they'll show you a binder of pictures and pages that are sealed in plastic. Young men have to give the first year after H.S. grad to become missionaries. For a year, they have to wear a tie and go around in twos and knock on doors and talk to people. Don't they do that in Australia ? When Donnie and Marie Osmond were on a popular show on TV in the 70s, as lot of young girls converted to Mormonism, b/c they were so in love with Donnie Osmond .
    PEOPLELOVER

Yes Mycatsmom they do call around but I just inform them that whilst I respect their right to believe and I like people to repespect my right not to believe "and have a nice day"
Occasionaly with the Jehovahs Witnesses I have a bit of a chat and always ask "if God was all seeing why did he plant the tree in Eden when, being all knowing, that Adam and Eve would disobey and eat/"
So all the trouble and upset is Gods fault for planting the tree in the first place.

I lean toward skepticism after years of hearing every group with a story. I keep my own council and practice a religion of faith, love, understanding and peace. Evangelical zealots are best avoided and dismissed at the door. Mormon history in the US has been peppered with shock and awe. In communities where they have strength, non members find their neighbors covertly hostile. Like so many Christian groups a strong belief in sacrifice is extended into their associations. Here, the non-Mormans apply sacrifice in sending their children off to war as a personal family sacrifice to save the more worthy members….whereas with Mormons  seem to prefer to purge the earth of heathens by gradual up-rooting and reduction quietly. Seems like so many groups are anti-cultural when not their own….without inclusion. Common to all such groups is a Eugenic haze in their mystic vision of reality.

Groups seeking to gain a footing in an area do a public intro as sweet, loving people, all candy and no rats. They tend to close off their home life into compounds and operate community stores in their support and expand as needed for the benefit of their numbers. The spread of Mormonism tends to be advertised in the target area only for now.

THIS ? is a Yes or a No.
    PEOPLELOVER

Thank you Romos you did what I was going to do. I still don`t know if it a Yes or a No.
    robertgrist

There are Mormons here. They have been here a long time. But they tend to mind their own business pretty much and I try not to offend them. The ones going to Peoplelover’s realm may be part of the group that gets persecuted here for plural marriage if you have laws that won’t bother with that bit, I’d say they could be fundamentalists. My answer is No.
