REPUBLICAN, DEMOCRAT, TEA PARTY, COCKTAIL PARTY?

Not to get a big political discussion going, but are your political views more liberal, conservative, or ???????

Guess I should answer this: I'm not a big believer in social welfare programs. My political slogan is "If you give a man a fish, he eats for a day. If you teach him to fish, he eats for a lifetime." (I'm OK setting him up with the basic gear)

Personally, I think that anyone that says they are a liberal or a conservative along with all the dogma that constitutes is just plain narrow minded. I'm a centrist , I lean toward the left on social issues and just to the right of center on fiscal terms. Successful politics is a matter of compromise. That doesn''t mean you compromise on values or compromise all the time, but it does mean that you try to be sensible and make an effort to solve problems that benefit the most people for the longest period of time. Neither side is right all the time.

So sensible and objective....unlike anyone elected to serve. When was the last time my legislature made a joint effort to solve problems to benefit the most people for the longest time? Seriously, when was that?

Bob/PKB: That's exactly what I mean. They haven't for a long time, but the congress was controlled at one time by the centrist. They were centrist during Regan and Bush I and look how effective their presidencies were. The current situation is illustrative of just how absurd it is to get locked into one position. Most of the time a persons views change on an item by item basis. It's primarily in the last decade that things have become so stagnant.

.....and it seems like the general population has just given up thinking they have a voice or can make a difference. There are many who believe there is a conspiracy behind the election of a president, and that he is nothing more than a marionette being pulled by the strings of an elite, and VERY wealthy, group of people. So much has happened recently to support that suspicion. It wouldn't surprise me.

Bob/PKB, You're right, it's a sad state of affairs. Poeple have become apathetic because they are sure that they can't make a difference. But, I think that even though it appears that they can't fight lobbiest, corperations, and other wealthy interest, if there were some way to get the people in this country excited they could effect change.

Liberals can get on their soap box and scream till their lungs explode but their socialist "HELP EVERYONE" policies CAN NOT be sustained. The people that reap the benefits from liberal policies are the SAME people that VOTE LIBERALS INTO POWER.

I am a democrat but I have never voted a straight ticket. I heard on the TV yesterday that If Obama worked for any business he would have been fired already. At least he is doing something. I certainly hope Congress gets fired or fined or what ever you can do to them.
