7y - 4 > 24
You need to get the unknown on one side of the equation all by itself. Do this by applying the OPPOSITE operation to the other values that are with the unknown.
In this case, you are subtracting 4 from 7y. The opposite would be to ADD 4.
7y -4 + 4 > 24 + 4 (You must add 4 to the other side of the equation, or the whole thing has changed. Always do the same to both sides of the equation)
7y > 28.....I already know what the answer is, but let's do the whole thing. You have 7y; you need 1y (aka "y"). Since you are Multiplying to get 7y, divide 7y by 7. Don't forget to divide 28 by 7, too
7y/7 > 28/7
y > 4 (And this is true. 7(4) = 28, so y must be anything OVER 4)

west-bus, I'm pretty sure you do this stuff with your eyes closed. That whole word accompaniment is so maybe this kid will try it on his own next time.
