because it stops  them from killing more people. Not to say that I'm for capital punishment.

Because it is thought to be a deterent - quite mistakenly. Nobody has the right to do this in my opinion. Very controvesial subject.

Please, be civilized.  Legally killing someone is called "the Death Penalty"  or "Execution", or "Capital Punishment".  
 In those contexts, it is perfectly acceptable.  Everybody is supposed to go along with this.....

I use to be against the death penalty, until i started working in prisons across the USA. These violent people are taking up my oxygen for no reason and they serve no purpose to life.

This is a tough one. I just cannot be for capital punishment. No matter what.

My humble opinion, we can not kill a criminal "to teach them a lesson " as they will be dead so no lesson is learned by the dead person. As Colleen said hopefully to deter others. Has`not worked to date.

With regards to killing in wars, local or global, there appears to be no other way mankind seems to be able to resolve differences.

My answer why we kill people who kill people is due to one indisputable fact.
