I quit my job, took in my disabled grandfather and cared for him 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for 5 years and asked for no money to do it. He was family. I did it because I loved him, still do even though he's passed on now.
Yes, if you must get paid to take care of your mother you can get compensated.
