    are you cheating on your homework?

        3x – ( 1/2 ) = 2x + ( 7/4 )

    Change fractions to common denominators. Then rewrite problem. (1/2 * 2/2) = 2/4

                                     3x – 2/4 = 2x + 7/4

            3x – 2/4  = 2x + 7/4  > get x on the left to itself by subtracting 2x from both sides

           -2x +2/4    -2x  +2/4   > get equal to itself by adding 2/4 to each sides

               ----------------------------  -2/4 and +2/4 cancels out, +2x and -2x cancels out

                   x          =         9/4

    Is it X = 3.5 ?
