Does anyone think the 18-24yr generation will have the same chances + opportunities than todays over 50s have had? I think not.

I can only speak for the current climate here and the answer is yes, and probably more, just different due to the technological advancements, the opportunity for higher education is now within the grasp of all, not always the case when I grew up, my children work hard and prosper, they are doing a whole lot better financially than I was at their age, the job opportunities and training available is vast. My daughter worked for an airline, lived overseas and has seen the entire world before she was 25, owns 2 houses and is paying off another, my son chose a different path but still manages quite well and is doing what he enjoys (all things computer) shame he doesn't  pass some of these these skills on to me! I think its too easy to blame environment, government etc. I believe young people still have the opportunity but often lack motivation. Perhaps we are to blame, expectations were not emphasized and we raised a selfish a lazy, spoiled generation. They expect to reap the benefits without the hard yards,

I really don,t think YOU did,but we often apportion blame to culture, government, society etc, when the real answers to a lot of todays ills lie within the home.!!! Scewed of the point a bit there, sorry, getting late.

I agree with Daren on Obama.  My concern is we the people elected him.  This next election will go a long way on my answer to your question.  If we elect him again our gov that worked so well with it's checks and balances was the envy of the world.  A precident in 2008 was introduced.  As a republic in 2012 we will make a decision as to what we want our country going forward to be.  If we return our Gov to the people and you are prepared to work hard and don't feel entitled then it will probably be better.  Once we get a Pres that is not buying votes through entittltments while ripping business and what he is doing for the working class, we stand a chance for the individual who is willing to earn his success in life by hard work and appreciation of being given a job to earn, the opportunity will be golden.  The reason I say this is there will come a time if we change in 2012 that people who are dobes will be in great denand.  On the other hand if your are the type who thinks you are a victim of society and are content to stay home and get what the Gov entittles you to have until it totally goes bankrup,t then you life will be better off with Obama.

He is trying to create jobs and stimulate the economy is,nt he, I,m Scottish,it,s just how it looks on our side of the pond.

I think it's much harder for this age group to get their start in these times. Even with a college education. My 24-yr-old college graduated nephew still lives at home and I've read that the percentage of college graduated kids still living at home is very high.

winfia, I think its hard for all young people starting out, it was hard for us, as it is for them and generations to come, but I think a lot of young people are not prepared to put in the hard yards and their expectation is to walk into employment of their choosing, on top money, drive great cars etc.immediately they leave school,it doesn't always happen that way and unfortunately not all can start at the top, expectations are high but I think they need to understand starting somewhere is better than not doing anything, its much easier to find a good job when your already employed and have a proven work ethic.

    i quite agree, lambshank.

I believe you are right on. Thanks for the comments lambie and barra.

That depends how intelligent the kids are . If they get obamaized and think they are entitiled to something , they wont make it very well. The ones that want to work, conservative with the money they earn , they will be progressive with a career. The world needs ditch diggers and fast food workers. Good question ROMOS.

I guess they will have different challenges. I don't see why not.

Uless they have discipline and a decent work ethic they will never find a good paying, permanent job, they keep blaming the system , i'ts up to them to improve themselves.
