    Were the Hobbits invented by J.R.R Tolkien?

    Have they been mentioned anywhere else before the book "The Hobbit"?

      Good Lord, no. They were independant but quiet little people who lived in Middle Earth quite a long time ago. They were not great at building or inventing, apart from beer, so they left little evidence behind, but the Glasgow Oochmon Museum has a small collection or beer mugs and a spoon. Tolkien was invented by CS Lewis.
