Hazelnuts an filberts are the same. They are grown in Oregon a few miles north of where I am and I think they may grow here too. They produce very well and and presently sell for about $8.00 a pound.

Pleased to see our Aussie macadamia in first place Colleen. They grow wild in some areas and are called Queensland nuts and Bauple (bop-le) nuts.

Aeschlus hippocastanum is the horse chestnut tree which produces nuts commonly known in UK as 'conkers'. Kids (of all ages) pierce them and hang them from strings and try, by swinging their conker against their opponent's to shatter the other's.
True chestnuts are the fruit of the tree Catanea sativa and are normally eaten roasted.
I believe that this tree was struck by a disease in the USA some years ago from which it has never recovered.

Hi bob/PKB. This was a popular game for schoolboys and I was once the unofficial School Champion!
It was a geat game for kids of all generations,unitl the politicly correct brigade decided it was dangerous.
Macadamia, I get them straight off the macca farms in my area, I also love hazelnut anything (chocolate, ice cream etc) had never eaten a pistachio until recently, no one told me about the shell, nearly broke my teeth, but they were good too, I make great pecan biscuits, everyone loves them,I found the recipe on the of the packet and they are truly fantastic
