you may need a new starter. your wires may be bare somewhere between the battery and the starter. you mightr need a better ground. you can test if its the starter by hitting it with something while cranking the engine over. and if you find out the problem but it still makes a growly noise you might need to shim it.

The clicking sound is your solenoid on your starter trying to engage with your flywheel,so could be your solenoid is stuffed,or your battery is not supplying enough power to your solenoid,,bottom line,check solenoid,battery charge,and battery terminal.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TK8NxqJ4MA
