I have as a Aussie probably seen more of England than most English people and I love it to pieces.
Why? Well I have just returned from my third visit in six years and the beauty of the countryside has to be seen in person to be truly appreciated.
The glorious Cotswolds. the rolling hills of Sussex and Wessex. The wonderful Lakes District in the north. The moors of Yorkshire, the ragged cliffs and stormy seas, yes all this plus lots of friendly people.
Don`t go to the cities , get out and see the real England. Have a meal in a pub with a thatched roof that has been standing since the 13hundreds. There is history around every corner, churches and graveyads hundreds of years old. Slate mines, grand heritage homes and so much that I have only scratched the surface.
If you have never been in a English local pub you have not lived.
Australia is my homeland and I am proud it is but I am proud of my English and Scottish heritage

Highlands are amazing.
When i was last in the U.K. i visted my sister in law in Malton a little township in Yorkshire. i went to the local pub and they allowed me to pour pints for the locals all night and giving me free beers it was great. i was a little apprehensive about going to England, as in Australia when i was young the english immigrants would call us colonials and other names but when i got to England their hospitality was outsranding. the highlight for me besides London's tourist spots was going to Liverpool. the birth place of the Beatles, visitng the New Cavern as the original burnt down and of course the Beatle's Museum, if only i was 40 years younger i think iwould have a ball in London, they have so much going for the younger generation. YES - i love England.
