A compound sentence is two or more independent clauses or simple sentences put together by using words like: and, but, for, or, nor yet, so. These words are called, coordinate conjunctions. Except in a short sentence, coordinators are always preceded by commas.
Example of a compound sentence.
Jane wants new clothes and shoes.
I cleaned my room, and my brother did the dishes.
