I use a lot of different spices depending on what country I am cooking from.  I love and grow herbs. Fresh herbs send the food over the top.

I have a secret ingredient and now all of my friends do as well.  This is for cooking when you have little time but need to impress..................................Club House, Montreal Steak Spice.......it is great in pretty much every single thing you make......it sends your roasted vegetables over the top.  It is also very good for my friend Jay... she bought it for her husband for when he cooks and now it all tastes good!  La La Viola!

    Absolutely!!

Lawry's seasoned salt, garlic powder, lemon & pepper seasoning, and cayenne pepper.

I use a lot of garlic and in spicey dishes cumin it brings out the flavour

Yeah, I hafta say garlic. If the recipe calls for no garlic, I use 3 or 4 cloves. If it calls for 4 cloves I use 8. My husband is Sicilian, so he goes into withdrawel without it. I just love it. I buy is fresh and already peeled. I love to cook, but I'm no slave.

    melandrupert

My hubby loves garlic as well I think he would go into withdrawels as well is there a Garlic anomouse anywhere! x
    michmar118

I do the same thing, winfia, and that is to use 3or 4 times as much garlic as is called for, most of the time!
    winfia

I even saute it as a side dish!!

    nooo, the cat got him..

Unfortunately my mom did not cook with a lot of spices. She came from a poor family and was lucky to be able to eat at anytime.  So I used what she used. Salt, pepper and sage, and poultry sesoning during Thanksgiving.  I have learned from my India friends to use curry, which i use everyday for the health benefits, and cayenne red pepper for the health benefits, which i use everyday.  Otherwise i am like my mother, stick to basics.  I do use garlic for health benefits and i hear we should eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup of onions a day for health.  My father always ate raw onions with meals and he is doing great at 80.

use tumeric in your curries, not only adds colour and flavour but has amazing health benefits...(I know my spellings different, but Im not American)
    winfia

Thanks lambie - I've never really known how to use tumeric. I'll try it in my curry next time.

I  like Garlic too - Saffron and sometimes hot, hot, hot though usually mild   - not green or red peppers, but like the yellow, like very much sweet chilli sauce but honestly don't cook much these days and have never been a great cook like fishgirl sounds. Sometimes I long for tasty food. Sea salt is the best salt.

    Oats, barley, yeast.

garlic and cinnomon.. garlic is way too over used because I dont ave acess to things I would like to have... But itll do.... I too use pre mixed pultry season when I par boil chicken... I love red pepper and use bay leavs in soups and broths...

I love most of them, use them with a heavy hand in my cooking.  Faves are basil, oregano, cumin, rosemary, tarragon, sage, bay leaves, cardamom,..........goes on and on.  Depends on what's cookin'!!

Number one is garlic, closely followed by Beyonce.

very hard to choose only one, I don't think garlic is a spice, so mine would be thyme or oregano, I also love lemon pepper and lemon mrytle

    michmar118

What is lemon myrtle?? Suppose i could look it up, but what do you use it for and in what form do you acquire it?? What continent is it native to? Don't know that we have it here in the U.S.
