My grandmother always made homemade great northern bean and ham soup and corn bread to feed us before we headed out for the night to keep us satiated and warm, every year. Wonderful handmade costumes, the spookiness of it all, visiting all the neighborhood houses door to door, sometimes twice and they didn't mind. So much fun and great memories. What are yours??

We came to Canada and my parents thought Halloween was ridiculous ... then one year when my second sister and I were almost too old my Dad decided that he was being a bit too himself and cut up the brand new bed sheets that my grandmother (his mother in law) had just sent...PINK and WHITE stripes...that man stayed up all night and made my sister and myself jail bird outfits.
We laughed until we cried. Went out as jailbirds. We were totally pathetic at Halloweening but we didn't care. Our dad was our hero...the one and only time. It was the best Halloween ever. Every time we looked at each other we laughed and laughed. That was the very best thing. I just loved my sister and she loved me back. We had the same ridiculous sense of humor and where do you find that? That was a great evening.
I can still feel it.

I went to a party and my date dressed as a flasher and it was perfect. He cut the legs off of some jeans and taped to above the knees, He put on a pair of my panties with a red heart drawn on them and wore a shorty T-shirt with the nipples cut out. The he donned a long coat so it looked like he was dressed and then FLASH!!!!!

I will tell my very standout Halloween memory. About 1973, when I was about 10 and my sister was 8, I think I was a witch and she was the cat, we were out rather late on Halloween night and were crossing a sort of side road leading to a main street in the neighborhood. Half way through it a group of older boys jumped out at us and scared us badly and grabbed my little sister's bag, loaded with candy, and she jerked back with it and it immediately spilled all over the roadway. I rushed to my sis's side when all of a sudden one of the boys yelled out " Holy S***, do you know who they are?!? They are CJ's little sisters!!" The others in the gang jumped and immediately began picking up all the candy off the road and put it back into the pillowcase sack, handing it back to my sis, all the while begging us to please not tell our big brother about this incident, going way out of their way to be extra nice to us. THAT is when I realized my brother carried a lot of weight throughout the neighborhood and I felt even more safe and protected than before. Still feel that way about CJ, he's our protector to this day!! I never told CJ of the incident, didn't want to cause problems, just as long as they knew we were CJ's little sisters. Had many super fun Halloweens in the "70's. Is too bad it's not as safe today for the kids. Was a blast,...and the Halloween parties as we got older, mascarading....great fun.
