and the question was written by a grandma ?

He was an explorer, colonizer, and navigator, born in the Republic of Genoa, in northwestern Italy.

    Not BLACK.

I SERIOUSLY DOUBT IT, SINCE CHRISTOPHER WAS FROM SPAIN, I THINK.

    Tommyh

Actually he was Italian Spacey.Still not much chance of being black.
    Spaceghost

Thanks Tommy, very little chance of him being black lol.
    Spaceghost

Probably very few, I'm guessing, my cousin visited there a few weeks ago, I think I'd love to live there.
    mycatsmom

He was born in Italy and he went to Spain to ask Queen Isabella for the money to pay for his journey . She thought it was a good idea, b/c if found new land, it would be taken by Spain.Yes, greed will always be with us.
    Spaceghost

You're right about that MCM, greed IS here to stay.
He was seriously pasty white......oooh la la...Have a listen to Soca Diva and see what she thinks.
    Tommyh

he was Italian so probably more olive skinned.
    FISH-O

In the paintings he is as white as a sheet. Seriously. Maybe the artsits were low on yellow ochre or cadmium.

OK Don, do you believe he's black? I'm only asking about Columbus as he is who the question is about, not Michael Jackson.

    mycatsmom

    carmaxable

    he sure is ugly!

Chris was Italian, they get dark skinned I guess....

    mycatsmom

My late husb was quite olive skinned, b/c both his parents came from Sicily ---an island of Italy

    D'ya think?

Were there black people in Europe in the 15Th century? I thought they didn't show up till the Dutch started buying them in Africa and selling them in the 17Th century.

    Tommyh

There were black people in Europe way before that. The Moors were there in the middle ages. But C.Columbus wasn't one of them.

Thanks for that bit of info tommy. To think of the money I wasted going to college, should have joined this site long ago.
    mycatsmom

They sold them to Europe ! ? as well as the U.S. ?
Was Michael Jackson black? (sorry, I couldn't resist it). ;)
    Tommyh

No.But some people think he probably re-discovered America.LOL
    mycatsmom

    he was a trans- racer
    Papitou

    He was a trans-everything...
    carmaxable

yes. i thought he was cuter black than he was white
    Papitou

I agree, he looked way better the way nature had made him.

No, he was Italian. He was born and raised in Italy.  Italy was conquered by the arabs at one time . That's why the Italians are tawny looking; at least the ones from southern Italy and Sicily are. That's where my late husb's parents came from

I read that he was from China and went to Italy.
    Tommyh

No.that was Marco Polo.He was Italian too & he went the other way to China.LOL
    eggplant

    I had to be different.
