    Sorry Lambshank - depo- provera injectionand there is still an implant but of another name and of course IUCD (interuterine device) all are contraceptive and you are right it lasts for three months quite good for young girls who forget to take their pill quite strong all of this can be dealt with at the Family Planning Clinic.  Here in the UK for heavy periods(Menorrhagia) Doctors prescribe Mefenamic Acid tablets (Ponstan) POM - Prescription Only medication this is the one usually given or similar Tranexamic Acid  tablets POM. Both should also help with painful periods Dysmenorrhea - Again Ponstan usually given, as the most effective drug..I am almost certain this drug is available in the States - prescription only though. Also need to see Physician to check out the heavy periods to see if there are other underlining causes for this...

    depro verra (incorrect spelling) not sure if it's still used tho, its a small implant and lasts for months
