    -2 - (4X) = 10
    -2 + 2 - (4X) = 10 + 2
     4X = 12
    4x/4 = 12/4
    X =  3

    -2  - (-4 * 3) = 10
    -2  - (-12) = 10
    -2 + 12 = 10
    10 = 10

    4x - (-2) = 10

    you cannot minus a negative so, the problem will become addition

    4x + 2 = 10

    then subtract 2 from both sides. Problem reads now

    4x = 8

    Divide both sides by 4

    x = 2

    Sorry read the problem wrong.

    -2 - 4x = 10
    +2 + 2
    -----------------
    4x = 12
    -- --
    4 4
    ----------------
    x = 3

    its 3!-_-

    Let the number be y
    By question,
    -2- 4(times the number) = 10
    i.e. -2 - 4y = 10
    i.e. -2 - 10 = 4y
    i.e. -12 = 4y
    i.e -12/4 = y
    i.e. y = -3
    So, the required number is -3.

    Now solve the other related problems by yourself.
