4 - 6(w + 2) = 10
(Do the multipication first....order of operations)
4 - 6w -12 = 10 (Now, get the unknown all be itself on one side of the = sign)
4 - 4 - 6w - 12 + 12 = 10 - 4 + 12 (subtract 4 and add 12 to zero out the 4 and -12)
-6W = 18 ( 10 - 4 = 6 + 12 = 18)
(Now, divide "w" and 18 by 6 to find out how much w is)
-6W/6 = 18/6
w = -3
Check your answer:
4 - 6 ( -3 + 2) = 10 (do the part in ( ) first
4 - 6(-1) = 10
4 + 6 = 10

-3 is the answer.
4 -6(w+2) = 10
Step 1. -6(w+2) = -6w + -12
Put problem back together. 4 - 6w + -12 = 10
Step 2. Cancel out the -12 +12 +12
Problem reads now............. 4 - 6w = 22
Step 3. Cancel out the 4 -4 - 4
Problem reads now............. -6w = 18
Step 4. Divide both sides by -6... -6 -6
Finally, w = -3
