Should Socialists pay more tax than conservatives?

The 'Democrats' in the USA and 'Labour' in Oz and the UK call for higher taxes. Republicans and Conservatives want taxes reduced. Nothing is stopping anyone paying more tax that is demanded, so why not tax the lefties at the higher rates they want and leave the rest of the conservatives on a lower tax rate?

It's the exact opposite of what socialists expect. They want everyone's money and do nothing for it, things like work.

In Canada we are taxed in the manner the government sees fit... we don't like it ... a referendum happens, we vote, millions of dollars are spent and taxes go up to pay for that.  It does not matter what party we vote for... a Canadian is a Canadian.  That is fair.

A Canadian is a Canadian, but some Canadians pay more tax than some other Canadians. But are they the Socialist ones who want to?

No, some Canadians pay more money in taxes because they (I was going to make a joke...) are in a different earning bracket. This is a nation that prides it's self in celebrating the differences, what ever thay may be and how one votes is personal preference. Actually, Canadians don't talk about it that much. It is considered very personal.

But Canadians do not celebrate the difference in political parties by giving Socialists the higher taxes they want and Conservatives the lower taxes that they want. More folk would celebrate that.

I think that I am not quite understanding you. When a political party is in power whether it be provincial or federal, that party can tax Canadians however they see fit...but in British Columbia we just voted to change what was changed without our consent...Our Premier stepped down and taxing system on goods and services were voted to go back to the way they were. The entire thing cost a bl**dy fortune. In this case it was the Liberal Party. The socialist parties usually don't do as well...It flips back and forth between the Conservatives and the Liberals...NDP is strong in some areas ...the other parties don't really stand a chance.

That sure sounds like a good idea (which, of course, would never work in reality).
More practical, in my opinion, would be a flat tax of 15% for everyone.  Or something like that.

The only socialist countries in the world are China, Cuba, Laos, VIetnam and North Korea. The US and all other countries have Capitalism and Social Programs combined. Even with National or Universal Healthcare we will never be a socialist country. Many people that are down and out its not because they dont want to work, they simply lost theire jobs. Healthcare costs are cause for over 50 % of bankrupsies. In 1994, 37 million people were uninsured, now its 47 million people.. Our Healthcare is the largest Industry in the US, employing 14 million people.Poor cannot afford to pay for healthcare, since they tend to have worse living conditions and therefore more medical problems. Theire human rights are beeing violated, simply because they cannot afford to pay.Healthcare costs are growing faster than economic productivity or wages.Supporting National Healthcare for all does not make us socialist or liberal, it makes us human beeings. Every human beeing has a right to live in liberty and persuit of happiness..

We do need entitlement reform. Starting with freud. If you pay into something, you should be able to collect on it.

why do you think the cash industries exist? because they make so much money of the complacency of the general hard working tax paying populations!
why should a "banker" earn more than a doctor/nurse/fireman-woman/teacher etc etc ;-)

Wishful thinking. That will never happen

I never thought the amount of tax an individual paid was based on their political views sounds so absurd.

The important thing about a tax system is that it be fair. TSC's statement that no one owes you anything is right to a degree, but it's simple and naieve. The reasons for a progressive tax system are many. For one thing, taxes are the price for living in a democracy. You pay more for being successful because you were able to take advantage of the system in place and a lot of people inherit that success. But, there are people that are locked into failure because of nothing they did or didn't do, but as the result or ignorance fostered by the narrow confines of poverty. They are simply unable to recognise opportunity due to lack of education or various other reasons. And a great many successful people are successful becasue they had a  leg up to start with. While the story of the self made man in America that struggles and with the sweat of his brow achieves great things makes for good reading, the reality is that their numbers are very very small. Therefore, you have social programs for this very reason, to give people a hand up, not a hand out. Are there people that take advantage of this, of coures, just as there are successful people that take advantage of the public, which is why business is regulated. Another reason is that social programs provide stability and order. The more educated and successful the populace the more stable our society.

    nicely said ;-)

See how our Government is? They are saying it is a problem with taxation. The problem is Government spending.

Let's save a mouse instead, Let's build a bridge so turtles can cross under it, Let's fund an airport that is used once a year, Let's send Pakistan more money, and on and on.

Ladies and Gentlemen, our government is turning Americans against one another. It's poor governing and that is the change America needs.
