Aloha. Have a great trip. I was raised in Hawai'i so Im a bit jealous.
Some tips on words:
Mahalo-Thank-You, Aloha-Hello/Good-bye/Love, Waihini-Woman, Kane- Man, Kapu- Keep-out, Please Kokua- Please Help (normally seen on trash cans), Keiki-child, Wiki Wiki- fast, Ohana-family (normally referred to the Hawai'ian people being of family), Kama'aina- someone considered 'local' or resident of Hawaii, Haole- stranger, though it has migrated to being caucasion.
The main language spoken in Hawai'i is english though 'Pidgon' is used very much. Pidgon is usually shortened english sentences. Hawai'i is an amazing place in which there are many races that live there and have a love for the land. When there, avoid Waikiki although you want to spend some time there but it is basically a tourist spot. I was raised in Kahala and Waialie-Iki so if you are in Waikiki look to Diamond Head and they are located on the other side of it.
Try a Manapua and a Malasada. have some shave ice. also enjoy the many local restaurants offering everything from American to Vietnamese.
Hawai'i is the land I will always have a love for in my heart and am proud to say that I was raised there. Hawai'ian people are some of the nicest and most laid-back people and 'live aloha' so you are going to have a good time.
