Laws pertaining to burial vary from state to state. What state do you live in? Each cemetery also has it's own rules about proper burial. If you wish to bury a person on your land, you will need to check with your local town hall for laws pertaining to private property burials.
Cemetery's dictate whether you need a vault. A coffin is not required in NJ, as is embalming as long as the body is interred within 24 HRS.
Why not? The Mafia never use them. ;)
