Why is it that car manufacturers have not improve economy of there vehicles since time began.

Car can go faster, 0-60 in sec's, engines more power for less capacity, more gears 6 or 7.
Car maker have the skill as seen with F1 racing small engines but just as fast or faster. Limits on fuel but still have some left at end of race. Come on world, get manufactures to improve, the funny thing is that it will not cost the makers any money to change. The buyer will be richer and can up grade, all win.

    Proof?

Are you asking about price or gas usage?

Gas prices historically have been relatively low or affordable for most of the time automobiles have been around. Not until recent gas hikes has this become more of an issue with manufacturers. Mostly they make cars that are in demand or incorporate the desirable qualities into cars that buyers want. So I don't think a high mileage car has been in demand for more than a few years...

Gas was cheap at one time and nobody cared. 19 cents is what I paid for gas at the age of 17. The oil embargo of the early seventies shook the hell out of everyone. Since than the car makers have done nothing to speak of in regards to fuel economy. Hybrids, all electric (Volt) cars are not a viable alternative. They will cause more pollution in the long run. We need to invest in private companies that do exist who are experimenting with alternative fuels (Not cornflake gas), redesign of internal combustion engines is probably the area with the most potential to dramatically increase mileage. Only 15% of the fuel introduced into the motors currently in use is burned, the rest goes out the tailpipe.

Cars remain inefficient due to collusion. Def.:secret or illegal cooperation or conspiracy, esp. in order to cheat or deceive others: the armed forces were working in collusion with drug traffickers | collusion between media owners and political leaders , between oil companies and automotive makers, between unions and industries. Graft and corruption are the dominating, ruling and rule-making factors that serve to blindside public opinion and policy.
