first of all, you get him/ her spayed or neutered. Secondly, you don't get him/ her declawed, b./c it's crule. They don't just take off the claws, they take off the first and 2nd joints of the paw. That causes great pain for the cat, and it makes him a little unbalanced, and unable to defend himself. Just trim off the tip of his claws. Then he won't scratch your furniture or curtains. Don't trim it too far up , or you'll run into a vein, and that will hurt him and bleed.

As Ann said you should have this cat nuetered it will also make the cat become more bonded with you keep all sewing away and always make shure you have the washer and the dryer closed or if the utililty is area is on its own never let he/she in there. play buy toys that are safe have a litter tray and always water down never give a cat milk never as there digestive systems cannot handle dairy products is the cat going to be a house cat then also get a scatch post and if you see the cat start scatching at your furniture put the cat on the scratch post straight away if you are letting the cat out get all the injections you need from the vet and only ever let your cat if you live rural and not near main roads and always get your cat in at night, thats when you have it nuetered other wise do not lwt it out and till you get that done or it will get pregnant or get into fights good luck with you new baby PAWS FOR EVER!

First you schould have him or her neutered. I would suggest to keep him or her indoors, because they catch too many diseases outdoors; can get insured or attacked by another animal.. Make sure you buy a nice big scratchpost so he or she can sharpen theire claws and trim just the edges of the nails. Make sure he has a cat bed to sleep in and keep it clean. Buy cat toys for the cat to play with and feed him fancy feast cat food and get natural dry food. and fresh water every day. A litter box, that needs to be cleaned daily and you will have a happy cat.
