    Independence Day is a proper noun because it is a holiday. However, I have seen it without capitalization.

    I discussed this with my housemate and we both determined that "Independence Day" is a proper noun,,, At least here in the states it is... As is Fourth of July,  President's Day, etc...

    No, it is not. Proper nouns always begin with a capital letter,  independence, is an adjective and day is the noun it is describing.

    I am wrong, you are right, Independence Day is a proper noun. Holidays are included in pronouns. I have seen it without capitals.
