Knowing when to speak and when not to is an art . Sometimes a million words are said in a single glance . Tears are the body's washing machine why would anyone interrupt a cycle or open the lid in the middle of the job ? Just being there is enough and in this case it showed both class and discretion . Seeing s how this question is seeking a opinion and not facts this is my opinion for better or worse .                  Bill

A guy might sit next to a crying girl without saying anything maybe just to support her, hoping that she will talk to him if she feels she needs to.

I would ask her .If she is all right .She lifted  her head up look at me and "Screamed !! "You are the ugliest thing I have ever seen. Then I would start "Crying.

The 'Crying Girl' is a phenomenon often seen on the London subway. I wonder if it is not simply attention seeking.
