ferrous materials in the form of steel (and related) usually contain high or significant amounts of iron in them, They are generally affected by magnets or themselves magnetic though not always the case. the main diferential is that these materials contain iron.

Ferrous metals are iron and metals containing iron

Talking about the iron, there are two forms of the iron:

    1. Ferrous - ion of iron whose valency is 2

2.Ferric - ion of iron whose valency is 3

Talking about the magnetic behaviour, the metals like Fe [Iron], Co [Cobalt] & Ni [Nickel] are ferromagnetic substances

i.e. they are easily attracted by magnet.

Hope this has helped you to some extent. Now share the ideas with your friends too.

nice answer and addition to the question. If I remember correctly, valency would be amount of electrons in the outermost orbit of electrons orbiting the molecule?
