Bi polar effective disorder is a pyschiatric condition,previously known as manic depression, it is a mood disorder typically resulting in periods of mania (elevated moods and behaviour) followed by one or more episodes of depression,in past (personal research) it was thought to be genetic,symptoms  are often controlled effectively with the use of Lithium or other mood stabilizing medication, there are many famous people throughout history thought to have suffered with this condition

bipolar might be one of the followings concepts: a device that has two poles or charges, an idea that consists of two contradictory approaches, a biological structure with two opposite ends, someone that suffers from the psychiatric disorder called bipolar disorder, which is characterized by depressions and manias (two opposite emotions).
