Fill in all the standing water puddles around your home, plants lots of Marigolds and Geraniums. That is what we have done this year and we have had virually no mosquitos ther first time in many years.. Our Town also sprayed large areas of standing water and it controlled the Mosquito population a great deal also,As robertgrist said" Malathion is safe to use if you have a big problem with mosquitos.

I have lavender in my yard and it does seem to help deter mosquitoes. Burning incense is used in many countries, especially citrus incense. Having a fan going on or near you helps. Mosquitoes are attracted to CO2, that is what we breath out when exhaling. I think the burning if incense and such confuses the bugs. Bar-BQs, propane and charcoal and large active dogs seem to attract more than their share of mosquitoes. But I see you are going for the poisons. ……one other, Pyrethrum Daisy is a variety of daisy that produces red flowers and used in a sprayer will immobilize hornets if the tinniest drop lands on them…mosquitoes too. Most any daisy is toxic to bugs. I grow daisies around my tomato plants that remain bug free. I tried electronic insect repellers and found the ones I tried to be useless. Commercial bug poison that is safe to use is Malathion. I’ve used it but it smells like a chemical toxin. The odor is from another plant that has that chemical bomb smell and is mixed with Malathion which would be odorless otherwise.
