      Keep him close to you in feelings and encourage his barking when someone comes up....Teach him...

        Have him professionally trained. Do not take the advice of strangers who may not have a single clue as to how to train a dog. To keep him hungry, as was suggested, might also put you in jeopardy. He may eat you when you start looking like food to him.
