It's actually a group of muscles and tendons surrounding the shoulder. Learned that recently from my physical therapist after having broken my humerus bone just below that ball at the top that fits into the shoulder. Four months healing the bone. Extremely painful but also extremely glad I didn't damaged any of the rotator cuff, either! An even longer recovery period, may require surgery and it may NEVER be right for the rest of your life.
