It's difficult to open a business today, there's so many 'corporate' businesses that cater directly to the consumer, a small business is is almost impossible to keep up. The days of the 'mom n pop' stores have given away to 'big box' stores. in almost every commodity and service. Monopolies, -chain stores, discount houses.. They all get volume pricing from manufacturers. , to open a small business selling commodities or restaurants, services you gotta have something else because price you can not compete.
I remember in the 50's60, mcDonalds was just starting out, they were growing at a rapid rate, when they bought their meat, they actually 'dictated' to the meat purveyors what they will willing to pay, this of course was for all mcDonald's in the chain.. The price was so low that the suppliers had to make it up elsewhere so they tacked their losses on the small businesses, what McDonald's did was got volume price, while the suppliers of course profited from this massive sale, theydidn't receive the profits they needed to keep going, so little guys got the hit.. Now McDonald's has their own farms and packing but still this goes on.. You can make it today but you better have a plan and that plan can not include lowest prices.. Unless of course, you make what you sell..
