The older dog was jealous of the attention lavished on the new arrival. Similar behavior is common in many species including humans but does not usually end in the death of the new arrival. Hazing and abusive behavior is common.

THANKS FOR YOUR CONCERN. I AM IN AN AWFUL PLACE UPON DECIDING WHAT IS BEST. THE OTHERS GET ALONG GREAT, BUT THIS ACTION HAS MADE ME WONDER IF THEY CAN BE TRUSTED.
