      6x  -  7  =  -16


      1.  Add 7  to both sides


             6x  -  7  =  -16


             6x  +  7  =  -16  +  7


      ---------------------------------------


            6x  =  -9


       


      2.  Divide by 6 on both sides.


              6x    =   -9


            ------     ------


              6           6


      x  =  -9/6


      x  =  -3/2


      ____________________________________________


      Check Answer:  Put value of x in the problem.


         6(-3/2) - 7  =  -16


          -18/2  -  7  =  -16


             - 9 - 7  =  -16


                  -16  =  -16
